About Bats

Bats are amazing creatures. They are the only mammal capable of true flight. Their echolocation skills match the most advanced technology man is capable of. Their control over their metabolism, through torpor and hibernation is fascinating. No wonder people join bat groups!

Bats are also much misunderstood. Primitive man's fear of the dark and the creatures that were active in it, has left a legacy of myths and fears. Bats are not blind and they are as likely to fly into a human's hair as a human is to jump in front of a speeding car. They don't make nests and they don't chew the fabric of people's houses. But they do need places to live and since humans have a tendency to spoil the places they have historically used, they need our forbearance when they decide to share our space.

The Warwickshire Bat Group has pulled together a range of information and resources about bats to help spread the truth and dispel the myths.
